Vice-Chancellor Professor Vincent Chang was elected as a steering committee member of the Talloires Network of Engaged Universities. The Vice-Chancellor will have a crucial role in the advisory body as a leading academic expert and he will provide guidance for of the network. The steering committee consists of 13 international members in various leading academic positions.
The Talloires Network of Engaged Universities is a growing global coalition of presidents, vice-Chancellors and rectors from 410 universities in 79 countries. Among the members are Harvard University, University of Edinburgh, University of Geneva, American University in Cairo, University of Pretoria, University of Melbourne and University of Hong Kong. All academic leaders have publicly committed to strengthening the civic roles and social responsibilities of their institutions. It is the largest international network focused particularly on university civic engagement.
Brac University has joined the network in December 2020 in its ambition to become Bangladesh’s international and student-centric university, and to deliver impactful research. The Network hosts conferences, produces publications on university civic engagement, provides financial and technical support to regional university networks, and awards the annual MacJannet Prize for university student civic engagement initiatives.
The collaboration already opened up fruitful opportunities for the students of Brac University, like the COV-AID award, which was won by one of Brac University’s undergraduate students.
