BRAC University “Freshman Orientation - Fall 2016” for the newly admitted students of Fall 2016 semester took place at the BRAC University main campus at Mohakhali on 30 August. The event began with a Tagore song (আনন্দলোকে মঙ্গলালোকে বিরাজ সত্যসুন্দর) to welcome the students to a new and important phase of their life.
Professor A.A. Ziauddin Ahmad, Chairperson, Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of BRAC University addressed the program. Mr Shahed Ehsan Siddique, a BRACU Alumnus currently working in Standard Chartered Bank shared his wonderful reflection on BRACU life. He mentioned that in order to be successful in career, one must be intellectual as well as street-smart. BRACU has a fortified academic curriculum and extracurricular activities in the form of clubs to help students flourish.
Vice Chancellor, BRAC University, Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D., in his speech congratulated the new students for being selected in BRAC University, one the top ranked universities of Bangladesh. The VC in his inspiring speech mentioned that BRACU is dedicatedly working towards building leaders for the country, who are not only knowledgeable but also conscious, conscientious, ethical, contributing to the society, humane and filled with empathy.
The Vice Chancellor informed the studetns that with existing international standard curriculum, highly qualified teachers, resourceful digital library, international collaborations and industry partnerships, the university will have a state of the art permanent campus by 2019. He added that BRACU has always been motivating meritorious students by giving them recognition in the form of scholarships, tuition fee waiver and exposures like “Lunch with the Vice Chancellor”. These are aimed to make students competent for their future career and life. The VC advised students to set their career goals at the beginning of their study programs and work hard towards their goals in order to pursue their dreams according to individual potentialities. He also encouraged students to participate in clubs activities, one of the main objectives of which is to make students socially aware and build leadership qualities in them.
The program ended with everyone cheering together “We are BRACU!” to celebrate the inclusion of the new students into the BRACU family.
