Institutions should not be person dependent; rather there should be proper policies in place to provide guidance, said BRAC University (BRACU) Vice Chancellor Professor Syed Saad Andaleeb, Ph.D.
Students on the other hand must pursue physical, cognitive, emotional and spiritual well-being; they must have the empathy and knowledge to analyse problems, he said at a programme at BRACU’s Mohakhali campus auditorium on 12 July 2018, celebrating his four years at the educational institution.
He said it was a privilege to be a part of BRACU and the BRAC family and that all should continue to acquire and disseminate knowledge to remain as the top-ranked private university in Bangladesh.
Treasurer Shib Narayan Kairy announced that Professor Andaleeb was donating a substantial amount to BRACU for research and meritorious but financially insolvent students.
Heads of different departments present at the program lauded the role Professor Andaleeb played in developing the university through promoting pedagogy, research, culture and sports engagements.
The program started with the screening of a documentary created by BRAC University Film Club on Professor Andaleeb and the achievements of BRACU during his tenure.
A student of BRACU Leadership Forum presented a calligraphy compilation of words Dr. Andaleeb used most often to project his ideas. Two students of Art and Photography Society presented to him his portrait.
The VC cut a cake to celebrate his 4 years at BRACU, the national anthem was played in a patriotic spirit, and the event ended with “An evening of classical music: A tribute to the VC” where Rajrupa Chowdhury played the sarod.
