BRAC University organized a number of programs recently in observance of Genocide Remembrance Day on 25th March and Independence Day 26th March.
On 25 March, 2022, BRAC University Debate Club arranged an intra-university debate tournament at the university’s Mohakhali campus themed on Bangladesh’s historic struggle and the gaining of independence through the Liberation War of 1971. The event commemorated the unarmed Bangalees who fell victim to genocide carried out by the Pakistani occupation forces through “Operation Searchlight” on the night of 25 March, 1971.
On 26 March, 2022, BRAC University Football Club arranged an “Independence Day Friendly Football Match” on the university’s Residential Campus in Savar. It was participated by both male and female football players of BRAC University.
Program of Independence Day on 29 March 2022, started with the rendition of the national anthem of Bangladesh, paying respect to the memories of the martyrs and celebrating the 52nd Independence Day. BRAC University Business Club in collaboration with the Office of Co-curricular Activities organized a cultural program. The students of BRAC University Cultural Club and BRAC University MONON rendered songs and poems while students of the BRAC University Art and Photography Society showcased their art.
Moreover, fund collected from a “Bongo Marathon” was handed over to representatives of “It's Humanity Foundation” by Tahsina Rahman, Joint Director of Campus Life, BRAC University. Students of the BRAC University Leadership Development Forum had organized the fundraising program on 17 March, 2022 marking Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s birthday which is also celebrated as the Children’s Day in Bangladesh.
In a speech, the event’s special guest freedom fighter Jamal Uddin Shikdar said, “Today we pay homage to my brothers…Have you ever asked yourself why we won? The reason is that we followed Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman's orders and our commanders' instructions.”
