Five students from BRAC University were competitively selected for the Get Engaged Conference 2022 organized by the Open Society University Network (OSUN) at the American University of Central Asia (AUCA) located in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The conference was held from 23rd June 2022 to 30th June 2022. Turzo Nicholas Mondal, a Lecturer at the School of General Education coordinated our students' cohort to the conference.
In this 7-day conference, Halima Hasin (ENH), Srijan Banik (CSE), Maimuna Alam (ENH), Labby Ahsan(BBS), and Faiaz Zahin (CSE) engaged with students from across the world to develop community leadership skills and collaborate on solutions to local and global challenges. The program hosted 55 students from 17 OSUN institutions and 28 countries collaborating on civic engagement projects assisting communities related to professional development; education, climate change; war trauma; political action, and more.
Among the four times the conference was held offline, this was the first time a cohort from Bangladesh and Brac University participated in this fully-funded program and received certificates. Along with hackathons and critical workshops, the conference included presentations of student-led civic projects and several traditional and cultural activities. The team returned on 2 July after the successful completion of the conference ready to share their experiences and inspire the future changemakers of BRACU and Bangladesh.
