Mr. Md. Saimum Reza Talukder is currently serving as the Senior Lecturer, School of Law, BRAC University, Bangladesh. He is an enrolled lawyer at the Bangladesh Bar Council and a member of the Dhaka District Bar Association. Mr. Saimum has completed LL.M. and LL.B. from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh and holds a specialized Master’s degree in Law and Digital Technologies from Leiden University, Netherlands. He also obtained a Postgraduate Diploma in Social Innovation in a Digital Context (SIDC) from Lund University, Sweden. Mr. Saimum also holds a Diploma in “Economic, Social and Development Rights (ESDR)” from the Kathmandu School of Law.
These days, the research interests of Mr. Saimum focus on legal aspects of Big Data, Artificial Intelligence, Data Privacy, Freedom of Expression Online, Digital Rights and Net Neutrality. Currently, he is involved in the following research activities:
1. Member of the Artificial Intelligence Working Group, an initiative by the Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities with generous support from the Open Society University Network (OSUN). The AI Working Group focuses on exploring the cross-sections of Artificial Intelligence and Humanities.
2. Member of the Bangladesh Internet Freedom Working Group, a civil society initiative by a consortium of NGOs and INGOs. The overall goal of this Working Group is to promote online freedom of expression and access to information in the Indo-Pacific region by supporting civil society, influencing government policies, and building collaborative networks among diverse stakeholders.
3. Lead researcher of the study titled ‘Cybersecurity, Social Media and Information Regulation: Unpacking Sub-Regional Trend in South Asia’. The aim of this study is to publish a research Report to develop a deeper understanding of sub-regional trends in South Asia (Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka) in the context of Cybersecurity. The study is being coordinated and financed by the Konrad-Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), a political foundation in Germany, committed to achieving and maintaining peace, freedom, and justice through political education. School of Law, Brac University, The Centre for Communication Governance at National Law University Delhi, and the LIRNE Asia will conduct the study in Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka respectively.
