During his Ph.D. program Dr. Raeed was involved in the study of differentiation of induced pluripotent stem cells and telomere regulation in pluripotent cells, both stem cells and cancer. The study of differentiation of induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells generated the identification of a more efficient pathway for the generation of pancreatic progenitor and insulin producing cells. Additionally, his research has resulted in the identification of HDAC9, a Class II HDAC, necessary for the regulation of Alternative Lengthening of Telomeres (ALT) in telomerase negative cancer cells. Prior to that Dr. Raeed was involved in the studying Bacillus thuringiensis Cry and Cyt proteins and its application as biopesticide in Bangladesh.
