S M Mahfuzur Rahman is a Senior Lecturer in the School of General Education at Brac University. He teaches continental philosophy, world history, and cultural and media studies. Mahfuz has previously taught at the University Liberal Arts Bangladesh (ULAB) and Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB). He obtained his M.A. in Literatures in English from BRAC University where he was awarded the Chancellor’s Gold Medal.
Mahfuz’s current research explores the points of convergence between the a priori political consciousnesses (bildungen) of marginality manifested through fractal patterns in the indigenous and folk arts, and the social and multispecies justice movements. His objective is to understand how the manifestations of the consciousnesses of marginality galvanizes trans/national activism. His most recent work titled “From Philosopher’s Stone to Fool’s Gold: Populism, popularity vis-à-vis (post?)anarchism” (2023) examines the ontological resilience of human rights activism from a postanarchist perspective.
