Thesis Requirement
Students in MSc in EEE program must do a thesis work (EEE503) as a part of the degree requirement, where they are required to carry out an original research work, preferably on a topic within their academic tracks, following established research methods and methodologies, under direct supervision of a faculty member.
Thesis Supervisor: Before embark on a thesis work, students must find a willing supervisor (Assistant Professor and above) who is a member of the EEE Department, Brac University. Faculty members from other universities must be approved by the Department. In case a student is unable to find a willing thesis supervisor, Committee for the Post-Graduate Studies (CPGS), Department of EEE will assign a supervisor whose research area closely matches with the student’s research interest.
Thesis Proposal: Students will be required to submit a thesis proposal, preferably within the first semester of the thesis work, prepared in consultation with their thesis supervisor, detailing the problem statement, proposed solution, methodology, and expected outcomes of the thesis work. The proposal will be reviewed and vetted by the Thesis Examination Committee.
Thesis Documentation: Upon completion of the thesis work, students must prepare and submit Master's thesis that comply with the accepted academic standards and practices with regard to e.g. literature review, problem identification and formulation, theoretical description, setting up of experiment, data collection and analysis, including validation and verification of the proposed solution as well as its limitations.
Thesis Evaluation: Once submitted, evaluation of the thesis work will be carried out by the Thesis Examination Committee, formed by the Department following established guidelines of the university/department. The Thesis Examination Committee will thoroughly review the thesis and, if found satisfactory, will schedule a date (preferably within two months from the submission for evaluation) for the student to present his/her work before the committee for oral defense.
