The Counseling Unit of BRAC University hosted a seminar on parenting with the theme “Parenting with Mutual Respect and Trust” at the university’s Mohakhali campus auditorium in the capital on Saturday, 31 March 2018.
Around 150 students and parents attended the seminar, the main objective of which was to promote a healthy parent-child relationship based on empathetic understanding.
Shami Suhrid Coordinator, psychosocial counselor and lecturer of Counseling Unit, gave a brief outline of the unit’s activities.
Afterwards, Professor Mehtab Khanam, the unit’s adviser and chairperson of the Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology at the University of Dhaka, initiated a views-exchange on barriers the participants faced when communicating with one another.
Later she gave a presentation on the significance of life irrespective of the circumstances existing all around along with empathetic understanding for the relationship to remain healthy.
Overall, the seminar was a professional platform for sharing and discussing diverse experiences and an opportunity to explore ideas on strengthening the relationship with trust and respect.
