Two Counsellors from the Counselling Unit of BRAC University Ms. Safina Binte Enayet and Ms. Anne Anthonia Baroi took part in the Summer Course on “Transdisciplinary Trauma Studies: Trauma Through Contemporary and Historical Perspectives” with OSUN fellowship in Hungary from 10-15 July 2023. Competitively chosen among other participants from all over the world, they were awarded the OSUN fellowship to take part in the course. This year 26 participants from different countries from various disciplines created a diverse learning environment in the class.
Transdisciplinary trauma studies are an academic field that explores the multifaceted and complex nature of trauma from a variety of sources. It seeks to integrate knowledge from different fields to gain a comprehensive understanding of trauma and its effects on individuals and societies.
The various aspect of Trauma was addressed in this course; History and Clinical perspective of Trauma, Digital Age and Trauma, Memory, and Representation. The discussion ranged from historical, political, and social context to the digital age of machines and how it makes us remembering something. In addition, trauma and the heroic cultural frame, and also those impact on the literature especially on poetry were brought up in the class. Moreover, in the psychological context of trauma, continuous traumatic stress and masculine victims of trauma were discussed among the participants which help them to gain a new understanding.
In the thematic sessions, participants presented their projects on several topics related to trauma. Ms. Safina Enayet and Ms. Anne Baroi reflected their views based on their years of mental health and therapeutic experiences at BRAC University. Ms. Safina presented the topic of Trauma of Humanitarian Workers and Rohingya Migration in Bangladesh. In addition, Ms. Anne presented Intergenerational Trauma about how trauma might be transferred from one generation to another. Overall, this course widened the broader view of how to work further regarding the context of trauma and collaborate with other fields of expertise. Moreover, this course will help to expand the collaboration among the network of various enthusiastic professionals in the future who are directly working with trauma.
