Group setting is the opportunity to share individual’s experience and take insight about particular issue. Moreover, it creates the unique opportunity to meet others who have similar experiences and who also want to pursue personal growth. In a safe and supportive environment, one may experiment with new, more rewarding ways of relating to people from the group. Therefore, the Counseling Unit of BRAC University took the initiative to start Group Counseling sessions for the students of BRAC University. This time the topic of the Group Counseling was “Anger Management”.
Anger is a completely normal, healthy, human emotion, but sometimes happens to be negatively perceived words in society as a person in a state of anger may lose much of his capacity for rational thought and reasoning which may lead the person towards destruction. Hence, participatione in the group counseling sessions helped the participants to explore the anger and reason behind it. Moreover, how they perceive the anger and ways to manage it, were discussed in the sessions. Some techniques were shared in the sessions to deal with anger like positive self talk how to take time and mini relaxation which helped the participants to be more relax in time of anger.
Ms. Tasnuva Huque, Ms. Anne Anthonia Baroi and Ms. Kazi Rumana Haque organized and facilitated the sessions. Two sessions has held on July 14 and July 31, 2017. The sessions will be continued in the month of August, 2017 also. In the last two sessions participants showed their satisfaction and full engagement in the session.
