The Centre of Excellence for Gender, Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights of the James P. Grant School of Public Health at BRAC University and Boys of Bangladesh (BoB) hosted a roundtable discussion on April 18 on the issues of sexual and gender minorities in relation to the recently held Universal Periodic Review (UPR) 2013 on Bangladesh.
The event was attended by delegates of various foreign missions, civil society members and members from the sexual and gender minority community. The objective of the event was to present the stakeholders' report prepared for UPR 2013, along with the recommendations made from the concerned community. This interactive discussion sought participant's suggestions on how to lobby member states and the UN more responsibly to put the issues of sexual and gender minorities on the table during the review.
The participants were shared with the report and urged to ensure that the issue of sexual and gender minorities does not get plunked under the plethora of other human rights issues at the UPR.
