Architect Bashirul Haq, pioneering Bangladeshi architect and designer of some of the most notable buildings of post-independence era, passed away on 4 April 2020. He was 78.
Ar. Bashirul Haq was born in Brahmanbaria. He completed his Bachelor of Architecture from National College of Arts, Lahore, Pakistan in 1964 and completed his masters in architecture from the University of New Mexico USA in 1975.
In his 45 years of professional career, Bashirul Haq has designed more than 300 buildings. His works, balancing modernity and tradition astutely, set the tone for architectural vocabulary Bangladeshi architecture and has influenced generations of architects.
Architect Bashirul Haq was widely revered as an influential architectural educationist and had taught in Brac University, BUET, University of Asia Pacific.
Bashirul Haq is survived by his wife Prof. Ferdous Azim, Chairperson of the ENH department, Brac University, two sons and a grandchild.
He was laid to rest at his village home in Bhatshala, on 5 April 2020. May Allah have mercy on him and grant him Jannat ul Firdaus.
