An orientation program for first-year undergraduate students of Spring 2024 semester was organized under the Biotechnology Program of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNS) at BRAC University on 10 February 2024.
Attended by over 100 students and faculty members, the event started off with Dr Munima Haque, Director of the Biotechnology Program, welcoming the freshers and informing of different teaching, research and academic facilities offered under the program.
Professor Mahbubul Alam Majumdar, Dean of the School of Data and Sciences, shared opportunities available under the program, ways to collaborate with other programs under the MNS department and how students should always reach out to faculty members for assistance.
Two alumni, Arka Roy and Afia Nowshen, currently lecturers at Independent University, Bangladesh, spoke of their time as students and encouraged the freshers to maintain a good work-life balance. Professor Dr. Aparna Islam also provided insights into her own research career.
In the closing remarks, Dr AFM Yusuf Haider, Chairperson of the MNS department, urged all to make the most of their academic journey through hard work and determination.
The event ended with members of BRAC University Society for Biotechnology performing songs, staging dances and reciting poetry.
