The Postgraduate Programs in Disaster Management (PPDM) BRAC University organized a daylong workshop on 26th of January 2023 specifically on Compound and Cascading Disaster Risk Management along with the omni participation from the Ministry of Environment, Japan; Department of Disaster Management (DDM), Bangladesh, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) and the Community Development for Peace (CDP), Bangladesh.
Training and educating the public on cascading and compound disasters, as well as how to deal with them, manage them, lower their risks, and become resilient has become an important issue to drag the attention from the policymakers to different stakeholders. Keeping this in mind, the Postgraduate Programs of Disaster Management, Brac University has taken this marvelous mission to introduce a module that has numerous understandings of compound and cascading disasters which will play a vital role to create resilient communities those be ready for, respond to, and recover from hazards that occur simultaneously or one after another.
The program was organized by the PPDM Program Coordinator and Lecturer, Muhammad Ferdaus where 70+ policy makers and senior professionals including, Dr. Md. Enamur Rahman, MP Honorable State Minister, Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, MoDMR, Md. Kamrul Hasan, ndc, Secretary of the MoDMR, Md. Mr. Mijanur Rahman, the Director General, Department of Disaster Management, Bangladesh, Mr. Gen’ichiro TSUKADA Director, Climate Change Adaptation Office, Global Environment Bureau, Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan, Mr. Yasuo Takahashi, Executive Director, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan, Dr. Kei Kurushima, Policy Researcher, IGES, Japan, Dr. Bijon Kumer MITRA, Deputy Director, IGES, Japan and Mr. Shams Mansoor Ghani, Assistant Professor, Postgraduate Programs in Disaster Management (PPDM), Brac University, Dhaka were present in the program.
