BRAC University Communication and Language Club (BUCLC), in association with BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), BRAC University, has taken the initiative to offer free English Spoken Course to underprivileged children. This course is designed for beginner level language learners by particularly keeping the Bangladeshi children’s language context in mind. The inspiration behind such a charitable decision to serve the community came from Lady Syeda Sarwat Abed, Director, BRAC Institute of Languages (BIL), BRAC University.
The orientation program was held on 24 September, 2016, which was attended by students along with their guardians. Classes have already begun from 30 September and will end by 17 December, 2016.
What is exceptional about these classes is that they are solely based on “learning with fun” theme. It has a blend of communicative method and a task-based approach to ensure maximum involvement of the students in the learning process in class and to achieve the course goals.
60 students between the ages 10-17 (class 5-12) from different areas of Dhaka have registered for the course. These students are from those ends of city where facilities to learn English speaking are not yet developed. Hence, they have registered under this free course to improve their speaking skills.
For effectively conducting the classes, the students have been divided into two groups: Orange (class 5-8) and Green (class 9-12). Classes will be held in the Listening Lab of BRAC University, 12th floor, Building 02, Mohakhali, on Friday mornings. The classes will be facilitated by faculty members of BIL and hosted by students of BRAC University who are involved with BUCLC.
