Feeling comfortable with self and others can bring peace in life. It may take over through healthy relationships and communication. One’s ability to communicate can mean the difference between success or failure in all aspects of living. Through the communication process, we express ourselves and exchange our energy with others. Unfortunately, communication is not always a positive process. Often people communicate in a way that lead to large scale conflicts, wars because they do not listen to each other, they do not care about the needs of others and they communicate using violence. Differently, people can communicate in a nonviolent way that can ensure self-empathy, empathy and honest self-expression. Nonviolent communication is a process of communication designed to improve compassionate connection to others. Moreover, it has been interpreted as a spiritual practice, a set of values, a parenting technique, an educational method and a worldview.
Therefore, to make an awareness about nonviolent communication, the Counseling Unit of BRAC University organized a workshop on “Nonviolent Communication” held on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 2:00pm to 3:30pm at BRAC University Auditorium. The objective of the workshop was to increase compassion, empathy, nonjudgmental attitudes in communication. It was come out from the participants that participants were not aware about the negative consequences of the violent communication. The useful tools of nonviolent communication will help them to communicate in a healthy way in future.
