Rasif Ajwad joined BRACU after receiving his Master's degree in Computer Science from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada. During his senior undergraduate years he started his research on Phylogenetics and analyzed different DNA Sequencing techniques for his undergraduate thesis, Rasif Ajwad went on to complete his M.Sc. thesis in Medical Genetics. His postgraduate thesis was related to identifying mutated subnetworks in the breast cancer genome for young female breast cancer patients, a project funded and coordinated by University of Toronto and SickKids Foundation. At BRACU, Rasif Ajwad is currently involved with the Bioinformatics Research Group under the department of Computer Science & Engineering, where he is working as a Co-coordinator. He is also the Co-advisor of the BRACU Indoor Games Club (BUIGC), subject to approval from OCA. Since childhood, Rasif Ajwad was actively involved in different social and extra-curricular activities. He was the captain of the school debate team during his senior year in school, which went on to become the divisional champion in 2007. He also served as a Chief Editor for 'Surjo-Palok', a little-mag which was published quarterly between the years 2009-2011. In 2009, he became the 1st-Runner Up of Meril Prothom Alo National Math Olympiad, Sylhet Division. During his bachelor years in Islamic University of Technology (IUT), Rasif was actively involved with IUT Computer Society and was elected the Member Secretary of IUTCS in the year 2013, and then the President of IUTCS in 2014. As President, he was the convener of the IUT 6th National ICT Fest-2014, the first and biggest competitive ICT event in Bangladesh till date, held once every year. During his stay in Canada, Rasif served as a member of the University of Manitoba Graduate Students' Association (UMGSA). Besides a constant research involvement in the field of Bioinformatics and Cancer Informatics, Rasif's current interests include film-making, old-school movies, billiards and yoga, the latter he fears is not going to last long.
