A team of three faculty members from the Department of Architecture, BRAC University, has participated in a capacity building workshop and management meeting hosted by Chiang Mai University at Kantary Hills Hotel, Chiang Mai, Thailand in June 2018. This workshop is a part of the ongoing ASCENT (Advance Skill Creation Enhance of Transformation) project which is co-funded by European Union under the Erasmus+ programme and is led by the University of Huddersfield’s Global Disaster Resilience Centre, based in the UK. They are joined by a consortium of 13 European and Asian higher education institutions from Bangladesh, Estonia, Lithuania, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand and the UK.
The tour was coordinated from the Department’s end by the Postgraduate Programs in Disaster Management (PPDM). Dr. Mohammad Faruk, Assistant Professor, Shams Mansoor Ghani, Director and Lecturer of PPDM, and Muhammad Ferdaus, Coordinator and lecturer of PPDM, attended this week long workshop and meeting. The key focus areas of the workshop were developing supplementary research skills, and scopes of international collaboration. The workshop also conceived the idea of four Sandpit projects which may develop as a sustainable outcome of ASCENT project in the years to come.
