Everyone should perform duties with sincerity to show gratitude to sacrifices of the Language Movement martyrs of 1952, said Brac University (BracU) Registrar Lt Col Md Foyzul Islam (Retd) while sharing the history of students’ involvement in the movement.
Addressing the observance of International Mother Language Day in BracU’s Mohakhali campus auditorium on Tuesday, 18 February 2019, he also urged students to learn more about Bangladesh’s culture and history.
BracU Cultural Club, BracU Communication and Language Club, BracU Art & Photography Society and BracU Leadership and Development Forum along with non-affiliated student volunteers organised the event under the supervision of the Office of Co-curricular Activities at The Office of Student Affairs.
The auditorium was decorated with various slogans and cutouts of Bangla letters representing the Language Movement.
The event began with the laying of a wreath on the altar of a temporary Shaheed Minar while BracU Cultural Club members sang “Amar Bhaier Rokte Rangano Ekushey February”.
A one-minute’s silence was observed in memory of the martyrs followed by a cultural programme by the students.
