During the holy month of Ramadan, the campus of BRAC University becomes a beacon of generosity and community service. With each passing year, students, clubs, and organizations unite to orchestrate impactful fundraising events aimed at uplifting the underprivileged and spreading joy. The year 2024 witnessed a remarkable array of initiatives, showcasing the unwavering dedication of the university's students and teams.
The event, "Donate for A Smile," organized by the BRAC University Community Service Club (BUCSC), continued its tradition of altruism, following the success of the "Sharing Happiness" event initiated in 2022. From 18th to 26th March 2024, coinciding with the sacred month of Ramadan, BUCSC leaded a multifaceted fundraising drive. Notably, the club distributed rations to over 50 underprivileged families while simultaneously serving more than 100 iftar meals at an orphanage in Mirpur 11 on 29th March 2024. A Dua-Mahfil was organized at the orphanage's mosque, honoring both club members and generous donors who contributed to the cause.
The BRAC University Response Team executed "Project Hashimukh 2024" for the fourth consecutive year since its inception in 2021. From 19th to 21st March 2024, the team orchestrated a fundraising campaign that culminated in the distribution of iftar meals to three orphanages: Al-Nahian Orphanage, Tauhidul Ulum Orphanage, and Badda Orphanage.
Additionally, surplus food was allocated to underprivileged individuals in various locations, including the Old Campus of BRACU, Airport Railway Station, and Nila Bazar.
Peace Café, BRAC University (PCBU), collaborated with 'Project EcoFlow Revive’ from 31st March to 3rd April 2024. Together, they launched a four-day fundraising initiative aimed at assisting victims of a recent fire in the Korail slum. The devastating blaze engulfed around 200 shanties, prompting residents to dismantle a further 200 structures to contain its spread. In response, PCBUs fundraising efforts sought to alleviate the plight of affected families, with donations slated for distribution post-Eid.
A group of general students also initiated a project to provide iftar meals to the needy during the final five days of Ramadan. Simultaneously, another group of students fundraised to assemble Eid packages for the university's supporting staff.
As Ramadan draws to a close, the collective efforts of students, clubs, and organizations at BRAC University stand as a testament to the transformative power of compassion and solidarity.
