The Counseling Unit of BRAC University has been visiting the Medha Bikash, a program run by BRAC Education Program for the underprivileged intelligent students coming from poor backgrounds. These students are typically high-achievers in the Secondary School Certificates (SSC) but financial pressures often hinder their academic performance and restrict their ability to pursue higher education. Therefore the Counseling Unit conducts motivational sessions for these students to help them to build confidence and motivation to study further and develop positive attitudes towards self and world.
Three members of the unit facilitated total four sessions for Medha Bikash program in December 03, 10, 17, 24, 2014 respectively. In total hundred students participated the sessions. The counselors facilitated the sessions on particular psychosocial issues like: Mental Health, Self-Confidence, Acceptance and Goal Setting, Developing Positive Attitude. Besides that, group counseling sessions were conducted to help them to share their issues with each other and how they can overcome such problems. Then individual counseling sessions were also given to the students who showed their need to talk individually. At the end, meditation for enhancing self-confidence and will power was conducted.
The session inspired them a lot to realize the broader picture of what they are up to, motivated them towards moving further with positive attitude. Both of the sessions were very much interactive and participatory with the students.
