The Students of Anthropology helped organize several programs throughout the month of March including a fresher’s reception for Anthropology students, a film screening and an interactive seminar.
Students of Anthropology hosted an open house on 23rd March in order to welcome new Anthropology students to the department. Chairperson Syed M. Hashemi along with other faculty members attended the event. One of the aims of this program was to introduce the students to the department, giving an overview about the disciplines offered and to hear the perspectives of the students. The event concluded with interactive games with the freshers.
On the 25th of March, the film ‘Mor Thengari’ (My Bicycle) was screened in the ESS lounge. It is the first feature film in Chakma language and it was only the second screening of the film. Its director, Aung Rakhine, was present and spoke to the students after the screening. The film works as a voice to draw attention to the language and cultural rights of people of the Chittagong Hill Tracts.
On March 29, 2015 Anthropology students hosted a “brown bag” seminar in the ESS lounge with Professor Anisuzzaman. A former Chairman of the Department of Philosophy in Dhaka University, Professor Anisuzzaman has made significant contributions in academia. His talk was based on the philosophical sphere of Anthropology and its relevance in our country today.
