Dr. Abu Reza Mohammad Islam joined BRAC Business School as a Professor on January 14, 2024. Dr. Islam has a distinguished academic career in teaching, research and academic management at a good number of universities in abroad. The universities he served over the last 30 years are: Simon Fraser University, Kwantlen Poly-Technique University in Canada, Lahore University of Management Sciences in Pakistan, KIMEP university, Kazakh-British Technical University in Kazakhstan, Abu Dhabi University, Al Hosn University and finally, Al Ain University, all in the United Arab Emirates.
Dr. Islam published widely covering diverse areas beyond economics. His published articles in internationally reputed journals bear the testimony of interdisciplinary nature of economics, finance, financial economics, marketing, corporate governance & waste management, environment and growth nexus with FDI and finally, on sustainability, sustainable investment conditions and firm performances.
Dr. Islam used to hold the position of a Chair of Economics Program at KIMEP University. He also played an instrumental role in the academic planning and curriculum development program in Economics at that University, as well as serving there the Academic Planning and Curriculum Development efforts of all Academic Programs to the Academic Council. In UAE, he served as the departmental Head of the Finance and Accounting program at Al HOSN University. He was also a member of the Strategic Planning Committee, an important committee, of the College of Business at Al Ain University. Besides acting as a member of the Business College Council, Dr. Islam played a very crucial role on many matters and issues: program effectiveness, quality assurances and quality control, report writing, relating to the academic accreditation process of the College of Business for AACSB accreditation. He was also actively involved in writing the application of the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program of COB at AL Ain University to the Ministry of Higher Education in UAE.
Prior to all the above engagement, he served the Bangladesh Planning Commission and worked in the Water Resources Division and later in the General Economics Division.
