The Open Society Foundation (OSF) has granted funding to support a research initiative led by Fahim Abrar Abid and Mahbuba Kamal from the School of Law, along with Nisharga Nirjon from the School of Data Science and Engineering. This collaborative project falls under the Liberal Arts and Science (LAS) umbrella and is carried out in conjunction with Parami University in Myanmar through the Open Society University Network (OSUN). The research has received a generous $2000 grant from the Open Society Foundations.
Titled "Student Perspectives of the Value of General Education in Professional Studies: Investigating a Law School in Bangladesh," the study focuses on the thematic area of Liberal Arts Education in Bangladesh. The initial phase, centered on a law school, serves as a precursor to a more comprehensive examination of Bangladesh's entire higher education system. Fahim and his team aim to elevate the education sector through this groundbreaking research.
The project's inception is credited to Fahim, while Mahbuba is currently engaged in a fully-funded exchange semester at the Central European University in Vienna, Austria. Furthermore, Nisharga, who previously served as a Student Tutor for a year at BRAC University, is an integral part of the research team.
