- Dr Nahid Afrose Kabir, Professor of History at the Department of English and Humanities (ENH) has published a book, American Muslim Perspectives on Radicalization, Palgrave Macmillan, New York, USA; Switzerland on 15 November 2023.
This book examines why some American Muslims, who were either born in the USA or migrated to the USA, choose to endorse terrorist ideologies. The monograph grapples with the definition of radicalization. It then discusses the cases of some radicalized American Muslims who committed acts of terrorism. The unique contribution of this book comes from its research methods. Through the analysis of fifty-one in-depth interviews with the participants (male and female) of this study from nine states of the USA, the book provides a thematic approach to the topic of radicalization. The interview data is complemented with relevant literature, an analysis of media perspectives, and the author’s personal observations. It also incorporates author’s field research in Palestine and discusses the contemporary situation in Palestine (and Yemen). The book has a multidisciplinary approach. It brings together history, sociology, political science, psychology, cultural studies, media studies, migration studies, security and peace studies, and global studies.
