Mr. Mitsuru Izumo, Founder and President of Euglena Co. Ltd, a Japanese biotechnology company, delivered a lecture at BRAC University on 13 November 2022.
Professor Vincent Chang, Vice-Chancellor of BRAC University, Professor Dr. Yusuf Haider, Chairperson of the Department of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MNS), and Dr. Munima Haque, Program Director for Biotechnology, were also present.
Euglena Co. Ltd. is the world’s first biotechnology company that succeeded in outdoor mass cultivation of euglena, a type of algae. Mr. Izumo delivered the lecture on “Solving malnutrition, poverty problems and combat climate change by Euglena’s technology”. It highlighted Euglena’s goals and activities in Bangladesh.
Mr. Izumo Commented that malnutrition and poverty goes hand in hand for many developing countries in the world, including Bangladesh. On top of that, combating the impending threat of climate change creates an additional challenge to the already overstrained country, he added. His lecture was an inspiration for youngsters who wish to start a business. Mr. Izumo then responded to questions from the audience.
