A prize giving ceremony for ‘RS Championship’ for Fall 2023 Residential Semester (RS) was held at the Savar Residential Campus of BRAC University on 1st December 2023.
The program was attended by Dr David Dowland, Registrar, BRAC University, Mir Sadik Faisal, Campus Superintendent, Residential Semester, BRAC University and other faculty members and officials.
Currently, there are 1,651 students in this RS, the biggest batch till date. Students were divided into 5 houses, namely Dhrubotara, Chayaneer, Moyourponkhi, Meghdoot and Dhanshiri, as part of an initiative to establish a house system. The motto of the house system was to create team work and bonding among the students, so that they can thrive to achieve a common goal.
The program started with the national anthem. The organizers arranged 11 sporting events for the male and female students which include - Cricket, Football, Basketball, Carrom, Chess, Table Tennis, Badminton, Sprint, Spoon Race, Musical Chairs, and Haribhanga.
For the first time, RS introduced - Women’s Cricket, Football, and Basketball tournament . The goal of women's cricket, football, and basketball was to promote female involvement in sports and foster teamwork.
A total of 252 students won awards in various categories. Eight students were presented trophies for their extraordinary individual performances. 13 trophies were distributed among the champions and runners up of various sports events. All in all, Dhrubotara house beacme the Champion House for the third time with its members winning 7 gold, and 5 silver and 1 bronze.
Registrar of BRAC University, Dr David Dowland, addressed the students and said, “We have been packing up Mohakhali campus. We are going to miss Mohakhali. You will be coming to the new campus. It’s amazing, It’s really magnificent and fresh. You will have special opportunity in the new campus.”
The program ended with a vote of thanks by the President of the RS Sports Committee.
