Starting on a Thursday (24th November 2016), debaters and adjudicators alike joined together at the Indoor Games Room. BRAC IV 2016 began with the welcome speech of Azraf Uddin, a member of the adjudication panel and member of BUDC. Soon the motion was announced and debaters were ushered to their assigned rooms by helpful volunteers. After fifteen minutes of preparation, the adjudicators went to their rooms and the rounds began. After a fierce battle of words, round one was over followed by dinner.
The crowd gathered early on Friday in the BRAC University auditorium. Round two and three flowed smoothly. After that, they were served a delicious lunch in the cafeteria. BRACU faculty Adnan M.S. Fakir and Shehzad Arifeen gave insightful speeches for the plenary session provided to those going to the Worlds debating tournament. The day came to an end with music by BRAC University students’ band and dinner. BUDC’s team qualified to the pre-finals.
Saturday came about and the event started in the afternoon. After intense pre-finals, the debaters from IBA, IUB, IUT and NSU reach the final round. The final was hosted in the auditorium and after careful deliberation by our adjudicators, NSU emerged victorious. Best speaker of the tournament was given to Sadaf Halim from IUT, best judge was given to Abrar Rauf, of Notre Dame Debating Club. With a championship dinner, the tournament came to an end.
