Dr. Mohammad Habib Reza, an esteemed Associate Professor of Architecture at BRAC University, has been elected as the Vice President of the International Scientific Committee on Places of Religion and Ritual (PRERICO) of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
Dr. Habib Reza’s appointment as the Vice President of PRERICO is a testament to his exceptional contributions and expertise in the field of architectural conservation and Heritage management. His profound knowledge, dedication, and passion for preserving cultural heritage have earned him recognition within the global academic and professional community. Presently, He is also Co-director of the Heritage and Cultural Identity work programme of International Union of Architects (UIA).
BRAC University organized a two-day long workshop titled "Understanding Inclusion; Bespoke Legal Skills and Advocacy Training to Promote Inclusion Awareness" on June 21st and 22nd, 2023, at the BRAC University Auditorium. The event was organized by BRAC University in association with 'Team Inclusion' and 'The Women in Gowns (WIGs) Project'. A total of thirty law students from different universities, five hearing-impaired participants from Team Inclusion, and three sign language experts actively participated in the workshop in order to learn about the legal prospect of inclusion awareness along with first-hand advocacy training. The workshop was conducted by Barrister Sabina Khan, who is based in the UK and has been working in the field of creating an inclusive legal environment for differently-abled people for around ten years. Mr. Subir Kumar Saha (Coordinator and Disability Expert from Gana Unnayan Kendra), Raoman Smita (President, Global Law Thinkers Society and Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh), Aishah Hussain (Disability Specialist from UK), and Ms. Sharin Shajahan Naomi (PhD) (Assistant Professor, Asian University for Women, Chittagong) were present as guest speakers to create awareness about the issues that differently-abled people face in Bangladesh, as well as to inspire the workshop participants to work for an inclusive legal space. With the sincere support of the honorable Registrar of BRAC University, Dr. David Dowland, Joint Director of Student Life, Tahsina Rahman, and Senior Lecturer from the School of Law, Sazeeda Johora Thakur, this two-day-long event was successfully concluded through a certificate giving ceremony.
As an Associate Professor at BRAC University’s Department of Architecture, Dr. Habib Reza has been actively engaged in teaching, research, and projects related to heritage conservation. His vast experience and innovative approach have influenced numerous students and professionals in the field, inspiring them to pursue sustainable and ethical conservation practices.
