The 29th Meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Council for Science and Technology (ECNCST) was held on 29 October 2014 in the meeting room of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST). Architect Yeafesh Osman, State Minister of the MOST presided. Professor Naiyyum Choudhury, a member of the ECNCST participated in the meeting. The meeting discussed at length the implementation of the decisions of the 21st meeting of the ECNCST held on 30 May 2012 and the 7th Meeting of the National Council for Science and Technology (ECNCST) held on 4 October 2012 with the Hon’ble Prime Minister in the chair. The meeting was informed that in the light of the decisions of the 21st Meeting a project on Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences for Bioequivalence Studies and Bioassay Research has been undertaken by the BCSIR. In regard to proposal on an Institute of Renewable Energy and Environment (IREER), a project on low cost solar panel is under implementation from January 2012. ICT training for the disadvantaged group is under implementation by the ICT Ministry. Regarding formation of the National Engineering Research Council a seminar was organized by the MoST at the DRICM Auditorium on 19 May 2014 and some recommendations of the seminar were discussed in the meeting. The meeting was informed that based on the National Science and Technology Policy 2011, An Action Plan for short, medium and long term implementations of the recommendations of the policy document has been formulated by a core committee. Professor Choudhury was the Convener of the Committee for formulation of the NST Policy 2011 and a member of the core committee. The meeting requested the Ministry to arrange for the next meeting of the NCST as soon as possible. The meeting was also informed that a new Executive Committee of the NCST with 26 members has been formed through a gazette notification by the Cabinet Division on 24 April 2014.
