School of Law has to share an exciting news that the Consultation Firm led by the Dean, School of Law, Professor K. Shamsuddin Mahmood won the bid of the project titled ‘Legislative Research for Identification of Discriminatory Provisions in Existing Laws of Bangladesh’ offered by Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of People’s Republic of Bangladesh. The quoted amount was 4.95 million BDT and the whole amount was approved! In this regard, the Dean of SoL signed the agreement on 19 March 2020, Thursday with the respective representatives of the Ministry. Apart from the team leader, two other faculty members of the SoL namely Md. Mostafa Hosain and Sazeeda Johora Thakur have been appointed as ‘Legal Experts’. The project duration is eight months from the date of entering into the contract.
This is the first ever research project of this nature from Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. The work would be a significant contribution in identifying loopholes and discriminatory provisions under the existing parliamentary laws. Moreover, the tasks would be in line with the mandate of Goal 16B of Sustainable Development Goals as adopted by United Nations Member States which signifies the distinction and essence of the task.
The project proposals have been submitted by universities as well as reputed law firms. Our Law School led team competed for Package 03 and got highest points beating all other submissions for this package. The points are on the basis of the portfolio of team leaders and expert members. On top of that, we are the only private university led firm to get this project and rest three selected firms (for the other packages) are all from reputed public universities of Bangladesh.
