Mr. Harm Spoor, sector coordinator of PUM, Netherlands visited CSE department on 10th July 2019. PUM (Netherlands senior experts) is a volunteer organization committed to the sustainable development of small and medium-sized enterprises in developing countries and emerging markets. Mr. Spoor is an IT expert of BASIS (Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services). Currently, he is giving training to small and medium scale IT companies in Bangladesh for extending their business at home and abroad.
As a part of his job, Mr. Spoor met with the faculty members of CSE department for sharing experiences and findings of Bangladeshi IT industries. Prof. M.A. Mottalib, Chairperson of CSE department introduced the BracU and CSE department to Mr. Spoor. He was very pleased with the facilities and academic environments of CSE dept. From the conversation, it is pointed out that currently, Bangladeshi IT companies are struggling for skilled IT programmers. Faculty members addressed that IT companies are not ready to give industrial training to graduating students. The companies always want to hire experienced people without giving training to the fresher. Faculty members also discussed the various issues related to CSE syllabus, programming tools, practical skills of BracU graduates and suggested him to share the issues with BASIS and IT companies. Faculty members think that IT companies should increase facilities for the fresher by providing a healthy job environment, training, accommodations, etc.
