Students of the 63rd batch of the Residential Semester of BRAC University celebrated “Borsha Utshab” at the university’s residential campus in Savar on 28 July, 2023.
“Borsha Utshab” is a daylong festival celebrated in Bangladesh marking the advent of the rainy season. According to the Bangla calendar, the season comprises the months of Asad and Shraban (from mid-June to mid-August) but in true sense it starts from June and continues up to October. It is the time when the southwest monsoon winds bring most of its total rainfall (more than 80%) to Bangladesh and when the whole country remains water saturated and most floodplains inundated. The celebrations include singing, dancing, drama and poetry recitation.
Around 60 students of the 63rd batch, which comprises around 1,600 students, staged a lively cultural program to render music, dance and instrumental songs. Administrative and management staff were present and the program ended with a vote of thanks by a campus management officer.
The Residential Semester at the Savar campus offers a holistic curriculum based on the principle of “experiential learning”, which cultivates a broad range of soft skills and qualities, to compliment theoretical development.
