On 19 – 20 July 2019, the School of Law held its Second Intra University Moot Court Competition. This time, 10 teams signed up to argue both sides of a case based on civil law. Alumni of the School of Law and advocates of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh were among the judges of the preliminary, quarter and semi final rounds; while Senior Advocate Probir Neogi, Barrister Md. Ruhul Quddus Kazal and the Dean of the School of Law, Professor K. Shamsuddin Mahmood, were judges in the final round.
This year, the competition was a special one because it was the first time the new Moot Court has been established by personal efforts from the Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Mohammad Tamim and he also came and graced the occasion as an observer of the final round Moot Court proceeding and were eventually introduced with the esteemed final round judges of the Moot Court.
The intra university moot court competition not only hones the research and legal skills of law students, but is also the recruitment process for mooters who will eventually represent the University in national, regional and international level. The coaches for the teams were former mooters in their final semesters. Awards were given for champions, runners up, best mooter and best coach. It is through the same process whereby former mooters of BRAC University brought home the runners up trophy in the national rounds of the prestigious Jessup moot court competition and won the championship twice at the Law Olympiad in Chittagong in 2017 and 2018 and became runners up in the Dr. Khabiruddin International Law Moot Court Competition in June 2018.
It may further be mentioned that three of the team coaches of the second Intra Department Moot Court competition will be travelling to Japan to participate in the Asia Cup Moot Court Competition after being went through a rigid international selection process, while the top eight mooters will be trained for forthcoming competitions.
