National Round: School of Law, Brac University Moot Court Team clinched the Runner-up position in the 6th Bangladesh National Rounds of 63rd Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, 2022. The competition was held virtually between 17 and 19 February 2022. Alongside the Runner-up title, BracU team also clinched the Best Memorials Award and Ms. Tarazi Mohammed Sheikh achieved the Best Mooter of the Tournament Award.
A total of 32 teams from various Bangladeshi universities took part in the competition this year. Brac University team was among the highest scoring teams in the preliminary rounds which availed power seeding for the team in each advancing round. The team won against North South University and Jagannath University in the quarter-final and semi-final rounds respectively. In the final round, BracU was faced with Eastern University.
Global Round: Top 5 teams from Bangladesh rounds were qualified to the global rounds of the competition this year which took place between 24 March and 10 April 2022. The international rounds consisted of 160 total teams coming from more than 100 countries and jurisdictions around the world. SoL team was faced with the top teams of Egypt, India, Netherlands and Pakistan in the international preliminary rounds, where the team won against Cairo University, Egypt and Denning Law School, Pakistan. Following that and based on the score, SoL team reached to the White and Case Advanced Rounds of the Competition among top 90 teams. BRAC University has been consecutively the only team from Bangladesh to qualify to the advanced round in Jessup Competition. The advanced rounds were held where the SoL team competed with University of Oxford (UK), Universidad del Istmo (Guatemala), University of Virginia (USA) and Riga Graduate School of Law (Latvia). Throughout the competition, the mooters appeared before international judges to present their case on international law issues and were well appraised by judges for their wonderful performance.
For both national and global round, the team was comprised of Ms. Tarazi Mohammed Sheikh, Ms. Farhana Haque Flora and Mr. Kaoshik Dey Badhan. Assistant Professor Mr. Md. Mostafa Hosain was the advisor and coach of the team.
