Board of Accreditation for Engineering and Technical Education (BAETE), Institution of Engineers Bangladesh (IEB) has organized a day long faculty workshop on OBE (Outcomes Based Education)- Implementation of Complex Engineering Problem Solving and Complex Engineering Activities as per Washington Accord Accreditation during 18~19 June 2019. In day 1, around 60 nominated faculty members from different public and private universities of Bangladesh participated in the hands-on workshop. From CSE Department of BracU, two faculty members- Dr. Jia Uddin, Associate Professor and Undergraduate Coordinator and Dr. Md. Motaharul Islam, Associate Professor and Coordinator of CSE OBE team participated in the workshop. Dr. Siti Hawa Hamzah, Associate Director (Civil Engineering), BEM and Liew Chia Pao, Associate Director (Electrical Engineering), BEM, Principal Lecturer, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College, Malaysia conducted the workshop for faculty members. Currently CSE department of BracU has already got accreditation from BAETE, IEB. BAETE wants to become a regular member of Washington Accord (globally recognized accreditation body for Engineers) by fulfilling all the requirements by June 2021. To get extension of IEB accreditation, all programs must need to follow the OBE based curriculum from 01 January 2020 as per revised accreditation manual for undergraduate programs (released at March 2019). With the leadership of Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Mottalib, Chairperson, CSE department has already prepared the OBE based curriculum including course plan, assessment policy, etc. by forming an OBE team with the coordinator of Dr. Md. Motaharul Islam. However, Washington Accord revised the requirements and from now on all programs need to give emphasis on two new features- Implementation of Complex Engineering Problem Solving and Complex Engineering Activities. At the end of the workshop, National Professor Dr. Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Vice-Chancellor of University of Asia Pacific introduced the importance of this workshop and shared the route map of BAETE to get full membership of Washington Accord by June 2021 and he distributed the certificates among the participants of the workshop.
