To raise awareness on mental wellness, the Counseling Unit of BRAC University organized two “Mental Health Awareness Campaigns” in the Savar residential campus on 24 July, 2023 and in the Mohakhali campus on 30 July, 2023.
Organized with BRAC University Leadership Development Forum as the associate partner, the events were open for students, faculty members and staff of BRAC University. The objectives of the campaigns were to create awareness on mental health, dispel associated stigma, offer ways to apply psychological tools for self and collective care and provide an overview of the Counseling Unit.
The campaign at the residential campus was inaugurated by Campus Superintendent Mir Sadik Faisal whereas the one in the Mohakhali campus by Registrar Dr David Dowland. Joint Director of Student Life Tahsina Rahman was present. Guest speakers enlightened the campaigns with their insights.
During the campaigns, different booths were set up on the premises for participants to explore and apply various self-help tools to enhance mental well-being. There were five booths named “Permission and Affirmation”, “Love and Relationship”, “Self Care and Appreciation”, “Yoga and Meditation” and “Expression and Communication”. The booths offered various activities such as “Stress Pacifier”, “Effective Communication Skills”, “Positive Self Image”, “Yoga and Meditation”, “Affirmation for Self-Love and Confidence”, “Breathing Exercise” and “Gratitude Practice”. All these activities assisted the participants to be aware of their current mental states, release tension, manage the effects of stress, and enhance mindfulness.
