BRAC University Computer Club (BUCC) recently organized a seminar entitled "Career Through Problem Solving by Programming Hero '' in collaboration with Programming Hero.
The event was hosted by Kazi Tasmia, General Member, Communications and Marketing Department of BUCC. The event had four guests including, Mr. Farhan Feroz, Lecturer, Department of Computer Science and Engineering , BRAC University; Mahmud Sajjad Abeer, Software Engineer II, Optimizely Candidate Master, CodeForces Programming Trainer, at Phitron, Daffodil International University (DIU) and United International University (UIU); Abdur Rakib, Chief Operating Officer, Programming Hero Developer, Project Manager, Strategy & Growth, Brain Station 23; Emdadul Hoque Tareque, Manager, Phitron Programming Instructor, Programming Hero.
The speakers highlighted the significance of problem-solving in practical situations, underlining the value of understanding and carefully considering solutions before coding, as emphasized by the phrase "think twice, code once." The host later thanked the guests for sharing their essential knowledge.
Mr. Farhan Feroz, Lecturer, CSE, BRAC University shared the importance of problem-solving in job recruitment in his speech. He further explained that giant tech companies' recruitment process occurs in five steps. Among them, only the first one is a general interview and the rest of the four stages are about programming.
Mr. Mahmud Sajjad Abeer took the floor and talked about the roles and demands of a programmer and explained how problem-solving can make developers irreplaceable by Language Model-based chatbots like ChatGPT. Besides, he added that how Job recruitment focuses on problem-solving and decision-making skills. Lastly, he advised the audience to start problem-solving with easy problems and continue it on a daily basis.
Mr. Abdur Rakib, Chief Operating Officer, Programming Hero Developer, said that being a software engineer is not everything; rather, roles like project manager, coordinator, business analyst, etc should also be sought out. In order to know which part is suitable for an individual, he suggested everyone to research. Moreover, he asked the students to upgrade their networking with seniors. Additionally, he proposed a 21-day work challenge as doing a particular task for 21 days might be his or her habit, like the habit of coding.
