In a notable event at Nagar Bhaban on recently, the distinguished Mayor of DNCC, Md. Atikul Islam, presided over the presentation of the top five projects from the Urban Design studio (ARC401) at BRAC University's School of Architecture and Design (SOAD). Students showcased their innovative creations, providing a glimpse into the future of urban design. The event highlighted the remarkable talent and dedication of these students, as their scaled models adorned the space, impressing both spectators and the honorable mayor.
The presentation consisted of an extensive journey on Rethinking Edgescape and how waterfront redevelopment may regenerate social, cultural, and ecological systems that are intertwined with the transformation of a physical space. The locations that the students had worked with began from Hatirjheel and extended till Rampura Canal.
Enhancing the occasion with their presences some of DNCC’s paragons such as, Brigadier General Muhammad Amirul Islam, PSC, Chief Engineer, Khondoker Mahbub Alam, Superintendent Engineer, Civil Circle and Abul Hasnat Md. Ashraful Alam, Superintendent Engineer, Mechanical were in attendance. Prof. Zainab Faruqui Ali Ph.D, Chairperson of the Department of Architecture, BRACU were present along with four studio teachers (Dr. Imon Chowdhooree, Dr. Md Rashed Bhuyan, Tasfin Aziz and Sadequl Arefin Saif) in the students’ work sharing event.
Onlookers and guests were awed at the idea of young minds thinking of innovative solutions to practical issues and authentic predicaments in Dhaka city.
The presentation served as a window to how the youth of the Architecture world are reimagining. Such a collaboration between experts in the field and of young minds with bright ideas resulted in a comprehensive event where knowledge and ideas bounced off of each other harmoniously.
